It was the biggest and the best theme wear fitness event on the planet. From the opening act, to the sexy fit bodies that grace the stage to the variety of elaborate theme wear worn. From competitors dressed as the little teapot to Cat Woman to a wind-up doll; from the Incredible Hulk to Jason Voorhies, it was the best fitness entertainment show around. What makes this event special is how the athletes play up the theme wear. After all, it is called Halloween Mayhem for a reason.
The show started with one of the most engaging opening sequences presented by show promoter himself, Sean Everingham. The sequence started with a video on a large screen starring Sean talking about the show, what was to come, ending with him showing demonized eyes and glowing teeth. Sean then entered the audience from the back, led by the Grim Reaper. He then preceded to hit the stage to do a dance routine to the infamous and Halloween appropriate Michael Jackson "Thriller". That was followed by him showing his dedication to the sport by performing a high-energy posing routine in phenomenal condition which was later deemed to be his last stage performance of his career. And that was just the opening act. From there, it just got better.
The show consisted of 7 categories Bikini, Male and Female Fitness Model, Male and Female Bodybuilding, Figure and Female Fitness with some categories further broken down into Open, Masters and Grand Masters.
The Bikini category consisted of some very beautiful, sexy ladies. Tough choices for the judges, but top spot went to Emily Pantaleo who wowed us with her graceful curves and an elegantly beautiful smile. Nicole Goodman and Monica Winn, who was last year's defending champion, both tied for 2nd place.
The figure category produced a double-winner with Tammy Gray showing both a quiet confidence and grace taking 1st place in both the Masters 35 and the Open categories with Mandy Jones taking 2nd place and Laura Robart 3rd in the Open Category. New comer Janice Caselino won the Maters 45 category.
Open and Masters Female Fitness Model -
Making her comeback at UFE after a 3 year layoff to win the top spot the Open Female Fitness Model category was Karen-Lisa Borders. Karen-Lisa came in fit, tight and took control of the the stage like the veteran she is. In the Theme wear round her elegant black and silver Egyptian Princess costume was perfect for showing off her finely tuned physique and we could see why she has graced the pages of so many magazines like Oxygen. Taking 2nd spot in the Open category and also winning the Master category was the feline beauty, Mandy Jones. Mandy came in ripped and portrayed her theme wear character of Cat Woman perfectly as she gnarled and clawed at the capacity audience. Third place went to Laura Robart giving her her second trophy for the night. As mentioned before, Mandy took the top spot in the Master's category taking her 3rd trophy for the night, following her were stage veterans, Melissa Francis in 2nd place and Priscilla Gagliano, in 3rd place.
In the Fitness category, Priscilla Gagliano took home her second trophy by winning the Open division with the Junior division winner being Melissa Mojsej.
In The Male Fitness Model, moving up from his second place finish last year to winner this year was Tim Lochhead. His physique was in impeccable shape and he carries a stage presence like no other and he did not disappoint in the theme wear round by taking the stage in a high energy, sword wielding barbaric prance as Conan the Barbarian. Coming in 2nd is real-life firefighter and cover model, Matt Trudeau but tonight, he was the doctor in the da house in his theme wear. Third place went to newcomer, Oscar Huete.
The Women's Bodybuilding category consisted of 4 divisions with Wendy Alek taking the lightweight division, Jynelle Bourne taking the heavyweight division, Maria Melo taking the masters division. The grand masters division went to Sandra McLeod.
The male bodybuilders came in some of the best condition I've ever seen for this show and remember, it was Halloween Mayhem, so for their posing routines the bodybuilders donned their theme wear and presented their alter egos as the crowd showed its appreciation. The Junior Champion was the ripped Scott McClelland. Scott is well proportioned and his conditioning was on point. For the theme wear Scott turned to "Dog the Bounty Hunter" for his inspiration. The lightweight category winner was Joe McCullough. Joe presented one of the most shredded backs on the stage with every possible muscle visible. For his routine he became not your average Cop. The Middleweight and also over-all winner was Dave Whitehead. Dave had it all: size, conditioning and a great stage presence and to cap it off, he transformed into none other than a a fitting Jason Voorhies from the "Friday the 13th" movie series sporting a bloddy machetti, mask and all for his routine. Light Heavyweight winner was Gavin Skerritt. Though very tall, his conditioning was phenomenal. Top spot in the Heavyweight and Masters divisions went to Incredible Hulk himself, Rick McCutcheon in his best shape ever. Rick is, umm how do we say this, GREEN AND LARGE. That's right his entire body was painted Hulk green. Breaking through a wall as he took the stage for his routine in ripped a t-shirt and shredded pants.
Rounding out the bodybuilding category winners were Grand Master champion is Robert Lupton and taking the Super Grand Masters' category is Mr. Jim Douglas.
